Exercise is More Important Than Calcium Supplements for Bones
Monday, September 18, 2006
A study making recent news concluded that taking calcium supplements does not do much to reduce bone fractures in childhood or later life. The study did not cover all reasons, but it does not stand alone. Studies over many years show that bone density depends on more than eating calcium. Calcium loss occurs through smoking, drinking too much alcohol and soda, lack of exercise, and eating animal protein. A young person can thin their bones through bad habits to the equivalent of an elderly person.
Bone density when you are older depends on what you are doing now. Sedentary lifestyle is a major risk for osteoporosis and fractures. Exercise thickens bones from the muscles pulling on them. Without exercise, you can lose bone density no matter how much calcium you eat. Without exercise, you “pee” the calcium you eat back out. You need to give calcium a reason to stick on your bones.
Even if you are a young man you need to build bone now. Osteoporotic hip and spine fractures are a major cause of illness and death for both women and men. One in eight men over age 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture, greater than his risk of prostate cancer. The death rate in the year following a hip fracture is nearly twice as high for men as for women.
Research in elder populations shows ability to increase bone density with exercise. Weightlifting is often mentioned as needed. People think they need to go to a gym or buy hand weights for home use. Weightlifting includes lifting groceries, children, and packages around the house. Weight-resisting activity includes moving, pulling, and lifting your own body weight. You can load your upper leg at the hip, a major site of osteoporosis, by bending right using your legs for all the many times you need to bend every day. Go to Disc Pain – Not a Mystery, Easy to Fix for tips. Future posts will show more bone building exercise from daily activities.
Several vitamins and minerals in fruit and vegetables help bone density. Calcium also needs vitamin D to work. Sunlight is an often forgotten source. Sunlight is necessary for your immune system, bones, mood, and overall health. There are some who say there is no safe sun exposure. Balance your time of exposure to reduce risk of cataracts and skin cancer. Get out of your chair and get outside in the sunshine for exercise every day.

rob answers:
You need both calcium and plenty of exercise for good bone health.
One without the other is insufficient for good health. The amount of calcium you need per day is about 800 mg but a bit more would be better. Vitamin D is required for the absorption of calcium.
It is well known that people who are bedridden need extra calcium as inactivity depletes your calcium levels.

Mandy asks…
did you know that your home is full of toxins?
•1 in 3 Americans will get cancer?
•1 in 3 Americans are on an antidepressant?
•1 in 6 Americans are diabetic?
•The #4 cause of death in America is prescription drugs?
•70% of all Americans have or will have osteoarthritis?
•Over half the men in any given room will have a problem with their prostate?
•Your home is the most toxic environment?
actually these facts are facts! and the air in your home is more toxic than the air outside. the common everyday chemicals you use in your home are making us all sick! that is what that has to do with your home!
message me and i can help you rid your home of these toxins!

rob answers:
I’m curious to know the source of these ‘facts’. A significant number are simply not true.

Paul asks…
Ok, i have a few questions for christians on this website and i cant wait for the answers!?
1. The bible says that we should put god above all things,
if we love anything more than God then we don’t really love God, and there fore cannot be saved, because God’s love is eternal?
So if i love my wife more than a God that may or may not exist,
i will go to hell?
2. The bible says that if a man has sexual fantasies or is sexually attracted to women in his mind, it is a sin.
Hmmm, well ive got news for you, a man can only sustain an erection if he feels sexually aroused, so how are we supposed to reproduce?
3. According the catholic/christian religion, even though it doesn’t address it directly, masturbation is a sin because it involves sexual fantasy to cause arousal.
Masturbation or ejaculation before sex, is necessary because it is part of our sexual organs awakening to allow us to reproduce,
also it has been proven that if men ejaculate, not to much but regularly,
they decrease their risk of prostate cancer by about 33%
masturbation has been proven that it can be healthy if done at a steady pace, so why is it a bad thing?
4. There are, and have been, thousands of other religions and God’s,
that have been worshipped, so if i deny a christian God,
why is it so bad and worse then denying the other thousand Gods?
I want answers to all four questions please.

rob answers:
Good question i really like it and as an atheist im looking forward to the other answers to see what they come up with its funny though tht the christians say hes the one true god cos if he is then why hasnt he always been worshiped from the very start of the world and im talking about the real start not the seven days bullshi t

Daniel asks…
some Christians why do you consider masterbation a sin?
my question for the day is. why do some christians claim masterbation is a sin when it clearly is not. its a good thing. it helps keep the pipes clean and lowers the risk of prostate cancer and it feels good all at the same time. sure it could be bad if used the wrong way just as anything can even the bible has been used wrong just like in this case and same for womens right, interratial marriage and the persecution of gays. the only way masterbation is wrong is if you are lusting after someone be it a person in a magazine, a porn star, or a actual person if you can masterbate with a clear mind which most of us men can do. then it aint wrong.
ive heard people like my dad and even people on here swear and declare that it is a sin and that there is a verse in the bible that say ” for it is better to plant your seed in the belly of a whore then to spill it on the ground.” the only verse close to that is gen. 38:6-10 which tells of onan spilling not his seed but the seed of his brother as it was duty to raise an heir to his dead brother since he was in a levirite marriage he refused spilling the seed on the ground and God killed him for it.
sorry this verse bout whores bellies ain’t in the bible and ill give a hundred dollars cash to the person who proves me wrong. cause i know its not there if that was the case i would possibly have to account for all the seeds i have not planted and if it were ok to plant them in a whores belly. then me being a virgin i can and do plant mine in my own belly lol
ha ha lol i see i spelled masturbation wrong lol that reminds me of the line in history of the world movie
the servant waits while the master bates

rob answers:
Any christian who considers masturbation a sin is just a judgemental fanatic who hasn’t heeded God’s word but has enforced man’s use of fear tactics.
God knows what God is doing way more than christians do.. Trust God… (see psalms 118:8)

i might also add the uk gov. handed out booklets saying “a orgasm a day keeps the doctor away” it was psa bout stds and teen pregnancy. i dont consider it a sin but many do and many people make their kids feel that they done something wrong and instill shame in their kids that way. if i had kids i would rather they played with them selves instead of going out and getting stds and having unplanned kids. im a rev ,but can you imagine telling your congregation the above phrase
” a orgasm a day keeps the doctor away” lol the looks on their faces would be something to see lol

rob answers:
I dont believe its a sin, Though i use to. I believe the sin comes with the thoughts of being sexual with another person that makes it a sin. The bible quotes it as sexual imorality, if you look at a women in lust you have already commited adultery in your heart.
Now i believe in a logical sense masturbation as an act is not a sin, but the thoughts that come about when you do masturbate to maintain an erection and orgasm is what the bible classifies as sinning.
Thats my point of view anyway. I will ask more about it because i dont see how one can abstain from it with all thats around us in the 21st century.
Ive been asking myself this question for years now, i do often get guilt trips .
