I need info on prostate cancer recurrence.?
My father had prostate cancer 5 years ago, had his prostate removed. His PSA this year read 1.7 and he has been diagnosed with cancer again. The area where his prostate was has cancer, and possibly his bones. What are the typical morbidity rates for this situation. I have found nothing on the internet. He is having radiation treatment starting soon. Just looking for more info than I could find. Yes, I have done some research, and can’t find much on it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the responses so far. I lost my mother to lung cancer 5 years ago, so I’m very concerned about this new situation. I appreciate all of the responses.
Wow, all of these answers have been extremely helpful. I found out yesterday that he has a Gleason Score of 7, if that sheds any additional light on the situation

rob answers:
Typically prostate cancers are slow growing and when it spreads the bones are the most common site. However, even with stage 4 disease this cancer can be managed well and it is not unusual to see men survive with prostate cancer for 15 years or more. PSA can detect recurrence sometimes years before it can be seen. You should really speak to his oncologist to get a better idea how all of this pertains to your dad as there are a lot of variables. His Gleason score determines aggressiveness as well as the time frame and numbers in the rise of his PSA, etc. Etc., but the odds are he should do relatively well.
EDIT: I forgot to mention. There is a prostate cancer vaccine that is expected to be on the market by February. I can’t remember the name of it, but it is from a company in New Jersey. It is very promising and has done very well in trials. You may want to keep your ears open and see if perhaps it may be of some help to your father.

What happens if a prostate cancer patient does not want to get treated?
My father is 65 years old and has prostate cancer. His PSA is 280 and his Gleason Score is 7 (3+4). According to his doctors, the cancer has not spread to his organs, but has spread to his bones…very minimal. my father refuses to get any treatments as he’s in denial. he says he feels fine and there is nothing wrong with him.
i cant force him to do anything he doesnt want…i tried. so now i have given up and i am just trying to get him supplements and healthy food…to help boost up his immune system to make him a little stronger.
i am just curious what would happen if a prostate cancer patient does not get treated? how fast will the cancer spread in his bones?
i know eventually he will die. but i am trying to figure out how much time i have with my dad.
and if there is a natural way of fighting against the cancer…not to cure it as i know that’s impossible…but to have him by my side a bit longer.

rob answers:
I cant tell you how long you will have with him, i dont know enough about it, but i know it depends on his over all health, if he is willing to stay positive, and other things
as for a natural way of fighting it, there is no known natural way to cure or remove cancer, there are some ways people claim work, but i wont post them here as i want no responsibility
try to talk to him, and explain to him that even if he feels well, something is wrong with him, that you dont want him to die and want to spend as long as possible with him
my grandpa and uncle both died from cancer (though not prostate) even though they did get treatment, it really sucks to lose family members to it
maybe it will take him feeling the effects of it, such as pain or the urine issues

My dad might have prostate Cancer…help?
Hi,
My dad is a surgeon and he, himself, might have prostate cancer. He had a scope and the found something abnormal, but when the felt his prostate they didn’t find anything abnormal. It could be an infection…but it could also be Cancer.
I’m so worried about my dad because I love him so much and don’t want anything bad to happen to him..
What advice can you give me to ease my mind….do you have any cancer stories or ‘cancer scares’?
I want something to ‘pick me up’….I hate the ‘c’ word. lol.
he is going to get a biopsy soon…exams are soon for me and i can.t stop worrying….that and the prom is in 2 days and i only just got a date…lol.

Why’s dad doing his own prostrate exam? I would worry more about that-

Prostate Cancer question? need help?
hello all, my question pertains to my grandfather, who has prostate cancer (PSA of 827).. he has gone through numerous treatments, some of which stalled the expansions, but atm his body doesnt seem react to any hormonal treatments… that said, i know his psa is rising, but not yet considered terminal, and i am wondering about any alternative treatments (i.e. hermal medicines, teas, injections) which are known to work— i.e. decrease PSA and improve quality of life? i’ve searched around alot but would like to know if anyone knows of anything that could help..
thank you in advance

rob answers:
Your grandfather was on hormone injections every few months and received a PSA prior to the injections? There are not really any FDA approved herbal remedies for prostate CA. Is the PSA of 827 current (post hormone) or was that pre diagnosis? If his PSA continues to rise I would suggest a bone scan to make sure that it is not metastasizing. If he is on injections such as Lupron or Eligard that should lower the PSA, if his staging is low and the cancer is staying still. What do you mean when you say that his body is not responding to the hormone treatments? They are not something that he would necessarily feel. He may have side effects such as breast tenderness and hot flashes, but that has nothing to do with the cancer itself.

Prostate Cancer question, help?
I’m an 18 year old male. And recently, i’ve had small amount of blood after a bowel movement. I was a little bit concerned so I did the normal thing and looked up my problem on the internet. I came across prostate cancer symptoms such as back problems (some times my back and knees hurt so much I can’t bend down, and other times I have to stand up because it feels so uncomfortable). Also, there has been times when I have been so desperate to pee but I can’t go without pushing really hard. I regularly go to the toilet, and then feel the need to go straight after because I don’t feel like i’ve emptied my bladder.
Right now I’m scared. Are these normal symptoms?
Sorry I didn’t mean that the blood was a symptom, is was really the other symptoms I was concerned about, many thanks ![]()
**Additional: I also have a slight pain ejaculating, its sort of a sharp pain?

rob answers:
Really the only way to find out is visit your doctor, your systems could indicate something that’s not serious or something that is.
Only a doctor can really diagnose your problem.
